Surface Gallery is an independent art gallery run by volunteers, which aims to support emerging contemporary artists.

Based in Nottingham city centre, the gallery hosts a diverse rolling programme of exhibitions.
Surface Gallery is currently a recipient of one year's pilot funding from Arts Council England.

Their current exhibition, Rules Of The Game is a rapid series of five, week-long, curated exhibitions of work from students and staff of the Fine Art course at Nottingham Trent University.

Each exhibition will open on the Tuesday night of each week at 6.00pm, allowing only two days to dismantle and set up each show. Responding to the theme ‘Rules of the Game’ students have curated exhibitions that explore the connection between art and play.

To accompany the exhibitions a series of essays have been commissioned from Aaron Juneau, Hugh Dichmont, Ashley Gallant, Laura Heritage, Alexandria Clark, Michael Bowdidge, Katie Saxon and Jeff Baker and will be published at www.surfacegallery.org following each exhibition.

In a special opening event, on Thursday 19 April from 6pm – 9pm, Matthew Cooper will be making work in the Gallery to commence the first show of the series, Spectacles.

Special opening night: Thursday 19th April 6.00 – 9.00pm

Free opening events from 6.00 – 8.00pm on the first night of each show.
